Korsteel’s Mullen Mouth Liverpool Bit has a very similar action to a pelham, as it works mainly on the horse’s poll, tongue, bars of the mouth and the chin groove when a curb chain is used. The tightness of the curb chain has a direct affect on how much pressure is applied to the chin groove – the looser the curb chain, the less pressure that is applied to the chin groove. This bit is reversible, as the mullen mouthpiece has a smooth side and a ridged side. The ridged side makes the bit a lot stronger, as the ridges create uneven pressure on the tongue.
